With each passing day, the mid range segment of smartphones is getting heated up. It is really getting harder to find out the perfect smartphone under Rs. 20,000. And Finland based HMD Global’s brand new Nokia 5.3 has made the job even more difficult for us. When you hear the name ‘Nokia‘, what is the first thing that springs to your mind ? For me it has to be the ‘Snake game’. I used to spend hours playing it. Such was my obsession with this game.
There was a time when Nokia used to focus only on durability and excellent battery life. But this brand new Nokia 5.3 will be offering to you much more than that.

The Nokia 5.3 runs on Stock Android and is one of the very few smartphones to be a part of the Android One programme. Not only this, the company has promised of giving you major Android updates for two years and security updates upto three years. You don’t really get to see this in mid-range smartphones which makes this one very unique. So if you are someone who doesn’t prefer changing your smartphones frequently, then Nokia 5.3 is the one for you. But is this all what you will get from this smartphone ? What about it’s camera, performance and battery life ? Let us find out.

design of nokia 5.3

Design of Nokia 5.3

The Nokia 5.3 comes with a hard plastic back and plastic frame which is same for all the budget smartphones in the market. It gives you the looks of a budget phone throughout.

body dimensions & weight

The dimensions of this smartphone are 6.47 x 3.02 x 0.33 inches. I won’t say it has a very sleek design. It is a large phone but overall it is very comfortable to use. It weighs around 185 grams which is not so heavy also.

display

Display

Nokia 5.3 comes with a 6.55 inches ( 720 x 1600 pixels and 268 PPI ) IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen (16M colors) with approximately 82.3% screen-to-body ratio. Now this has really surprised me. I don’t know why Nokia couldn’t give you a 1080p display.
You will get Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen protection.

camera

The camera quality isn’t the best. Nokia has never disappointed us when it comes to camera. And Nokia 5.3’s camera has somehow managed to give us a decent performance even though it is a budget smartphone. Overall you will get a nice experience while clicking photos.

rear camera

You will get a quad camera setup like most other smartphones in the market. It has scene detection capability which quickly determines towards what you have pointed your camera. The circular camera houses four camera lenses and the LED flash which is common with all Nokia smartphones. The quad camera setup consists of :

1. 13 MP with f/1.8 aperture (wide), PDAF
2. 5 MP, 13 mm (ultrawide)
3. 2MP (macro shoot)
4. 2MP (depth)

Nokia 5.3 packs a 8 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture (wide).

You can shoot 4K videos with the primary camera and 1080p videos with the selfie camera (both at the rate of 30 fps).

performance

Nokia 5.3 consists of Qualcomm SM6125 Snapdragon chipset of 11 nm size with Octa core Processor (4×2.0 GHz Kryo 260 Gold & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver). This isn’t really a very powerful processor but it gets all your work done. It works on Android 10 OS platform and Adreno 610 GPU.

Android One

The 5.3 runs on Stock Android and is a part of the Android One programme like every other Nokia smartphone. The main advantage of this is you will get updates directly from Google and that too for two years. And it is capable of delivering you lag free performance even with 4 GB RAM.

The phone comes in two two variants. The base variant will offer you 4 GB RAM with 64 GB internal storage and the other one is of 6 GB RAM with 64 GB internal storage. There’s a dedicated slot for micro SD card too.

It consists of a rear mounted fingerprint scanner along with accelerometer and proximity sensor.

battery

Nokia 5.3 is powered by a non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery. So you can easily get away with your battery anxiety because this smartphone can give you a 2-day battery life. But the charger which you will get is of 10 W. This isn’t impressive at all.

Nokia 5.3 is priced at Rs. 13,999 for the 4 GB + 64 GB variant and Rs. 15,499 for the 6 GB + 64 GB variant.

is it really worth buying ??

Nokia 5.3

The processor of Nokia 5.3 isn’t the most powerful one out there. There are many other smartphones which are offering you more powerful processors in this price range. If you play intensive mobile games, then you will have to search for some other smartphones for sure. And the 720p display is one of its main drawbacks. Come on. It’s 2020. You will never find any other company launching a new smartphone in this price range with a display of 720 pixels. The camera isn’t the best. Probably it will improve with a few software updates.

But the main perks that Nokia 5.3 has are the Stock Android and the promise of regular updates for two years. This means there is no place for bloatware or those apps which irritate you by draining the power of your smartphone unnecessarily. This is great. And you will get a Google assistant button on the side of your phone as well. You will not see this in any other smartphones in this price range. So if you are someone who doesn’t like changing your smartphones more often, Nokia 5.3 is the one for you. Once you buy it, you will be not have to worry at least for two to three years. Go for it ! ! ! Check it out below.
